I woke up today thinking I would share a different story, but Ivy had other plans in mind…
I figured I would get some grocery shopping done early this morning, so I wouldn’t have to deal with the rush of people later in the day.
I decided to leave Ivy out of her crate, as the last few times I’ve left her, she’s been great. We were hoping to take down her crate this week, since it takes up a lot of room and we haven’t been making her stay in there as much anyways.
But, after learning about Ivy, you know by now she likes to push her luck…
I left for about an hour and when I returned home, she had gotten into some Christmas gifts that were in the living room, waiting to be wrapped.
Now, in this pile of things to wrap, were new slippers that I had tried on in the store to make sure they fit.
Not realizing the extent of Ivy’s shoe obsession (you can re-read about it here), I figured they would be fine…I actually thought all of the gifts would be. After all, they were all in boxes and bags, nothing was left out by itself.
But that wasn’t going to stop her…
As soon as I left for the store, Izzy came out to play. She found the box with the slippers in them, and had to have them.
She tore the box into 1000 little pieces and as soon as I came home, she had guilty written all over her face.
There was cardboard everywhere…I didn’t know she could shred a box into so many pieces. I was crossing my fingers that the slippers were still in tact, and lucky for me…they were.
She went through all of this trouble, just to have a slipper to cuddle with while I was gone. She didn’t chew it, she didn’t eat the stuffing…she just wanted to lay on it.
I really wish I could understand her obsession with my footwear, but I’m thankful she treats them well…
Addie loves when Izzy does this stuff and gets in trouble. She goes into “time-out” in her crate, where she whines and whimpers like a baby. Addie follows me, rubs against me and cuddles next to me wherever I go. I wonder if in her dog world, she’s egging Izzy on, knowing that at the end of it, it’ll lead to more time by herself.
Today’s Lesson: find the silver lining. Ivy is willing to risk her “freedom” to lay with something that reminds her of me. She knows that as soon as I get back, she’ll be in trouble…but she does it anyways. To her, the risk is worth the reward.
I actually did want my slippers early…maybe she knew I was asking for them. Either way, now I have them…which is my silver lining. 🙂
