After a long work day, have you ever just wanted pour yourself a glass of wine and hop in a nice, hot bubble bath to relax when you get home? Well, I do…but Addie on the other hand, isn’t so sure how she feels about that…

I light some candles, play some relaxing music, and hop into my nice hot tub. I have my eyes closed and take a sip of my wine. As I open my eyes… there’s my Addie girl. She’s so loyal and loves to be by my side.

I give her a pat on the head and stick my hand back into the warm water. Addie must’ve just realized that I’m in water (and not bubbles) and goes into immediate rescue mode.

She sticks her snout in to grab my hand. As she gets ahold of my hand, she begins pulling me out, as if I am drowning.

Now, this water is hot…I’m sure she can see the steam coming off of it, and without hesitation dives in, snout first to “rescue” me.

I confirm to her that I’m ok, give her another pat and move my hands out of her reach. But that wasn’t enough for her…her mom is in water, and must be drowning…

This time, she goes for my toes. Addie dives her face into the hot water, grabs ahold of my toes and begins pulling me out again – leg first!

How do they instinctually know that something isn’t right? What goes through her mind to think she should risk burning herself to save me?

It makes me wonder if she was supposed to serve a bigger purpose in life. A purpose beyond being my companion and best friend. Should she have been a service dog, and dig through rubble to find survivors of an accident? Or be a rescue swimmer and help save people from drowning?

Whatever her purpose was supposed to be, I’m glad she ended up being with me.

Today’s Lesson: there’s nothing you wont do for someone you love. Love always wins.
