Have you ever seen the movie “Marley & Me”? If you’re a dog lover and reading this blog, I’m sure you have. It’s a story about a couple bringing a dog into their lives and the havoc he wreaks for them.
I remember this one scene in the movie, where they tie Marley’s leash to the table and he sees a dog near by…long story short, Marley and the table chased after the dog…
Some of Addie’s behaviors remind me of Marley. I think Addie might be a distant relative…or even a reincarnated version of him sometimes.
She is a playful girl, but at the end of the day is a guard dog. If there’s something or someone out of the ordinary…she’ll bark to let you know. Today at Auntie Stell’s was a perfect example.
Auntie Stell’s house has a beautiful back yard. The grass is always green and lush, and the flowers are in full bloom. Addie doesn’t mind seeing the birds eating outside, but today, she met Mr. Squirrel.
As we open the sliding door to let Addie outside, she sees Mr. Squirrel.
Now, Addie has played here with Stella many times, and knows that Mr. Squirrel doesn’t belong here.
She runs outside as fast as she can and jumps off of the deck, avoiding all 12 stairs to get to him. She’s growling and sprinting as fast as she can to get the intruder off of her lawn.
Addie goes back inside, but is now on high alert. If Mr. Squirrel or any of his friends come back in the yard, she is going to keep us safe and chase him to a new spot. Unfortunately for her, the sliding doors are see-through and there are many squirrels, not just one.
The family begins telling Addie that the squirrels are “laughing at her”, because she is inside and there are lots of them outside. We go to let her out and BAM…she rips the door off of its hinges and takes her leap off the deck to get to him.
There is no way that he is hanging out in Auntie Stell’s yard without her permission.
To this day, all you have to tell her is “they’re laughing at you” and she goes into full squirrel attack more. Each time she runs to the door, leaps out of it at first opening (even if there’s only a 1 inch opening) and chases the squirrels out of the yard. Once they’re gone, she does a quick patrol around the perimeter to ensure they know she’s on guard.
Today’s Lesson: nothing can stop you if you’re determined. Not even a door or 12 steps. If you set your mind on something, you can accomplish anything.
