Ivy is the cutest little girl.
She’s sweet and quiet, loves to cuddle and cannot be away from you (as you’ll soon learn). If you walk to the kitchen, so does she. If you want to get something from your car, she wants to get something too. She’s the most docile, loyal puppy I have ever owned.
But then, there’s Izzy…
Izzy is my sweet little girl’s alter ego, and wow, is she wild. You can tell Izzy is coming out to play when her ears pin back and her eyes open wide. It’s as if she just got ahold of some puppy Red Bull, and is ready to go absolutely nuts.
She sprints around the yard as fast as she possibly can. Climbing dirt piles and running in circles over and over. It’s like a switch that instantly flips. Inside is even worse – she runs in full circles around my coffee table, eats my rug and barks.
I’ve learned that a few of her littermates have a similar behavior, but I wouldn’t have expected Izzy to come out of my sweet little girl.
I guess she get’s it from her mother; we call Addie’s alter ego “The Devil”. She mostly grew out of her quirkiness, but you can tell some of it in still in her somewhere. Unfortunately for us, Izzy brings it out of her.
When The Devil and Izzy are both out to play, it is complete chaos. They bite each other’s faces and both of them have “the look”. Their eyes are open so wide and they make the strangest noises at each other. As I write this, Izzy is sitting on Addie (not The Devil) biting her face and jumping all around. Luckily, this times its something a good bone will fix, as she’s already had her time to play today.
And just like that, Ivy is back to normal, chewing her yummy bone.
90% of the time they are the best girls. They cuddle and lounge – something they probably learned from their Auntie Stella. But that other 10% is hectic. I guess this is what you sign up for when you take home a puppy!
Today’s Lesson: sometimes you just have to take a walk on the wild side and let loose. Once Izzy has her moment, she’s back to being the little angel I fell in love with.
