We’ve had a very busy week…

Miss Addie went to the vet this past week to get spayed…and now is officially done with puppy duty!

We spent the week(end) taking care of her, and babysitting one of her puppies at the same time!

I think Addie knew there was a bigger reason being at the vet than just getting her routing shots…

We had gone for a quick walk around the building to go to the bathroom before it was time for her to go in. I stuck her back in the car and we sat in the A/C while we waited for her turn.

Once she saw the vet tech come to my door, she knew something was wrong…

She moved to the back of the car and sat there, visibly upset.

When I took her out for them to walk her in, she stood behind me with her tail between her legs and began whimpering…like she knew she was heading in for something she wouldn’t like.

Animal instincts are amazing.

She’s been to this vet before…and the time she had come was just a meet and greet- there weren’t even any shots or exam involved.

Poor, sad Addie went into the vet and I wouldn’t see her until the next day. I walked her to the door so she would feel safer…and off she went.

At the same time, Ivy was home keeping our little visitor busy.

The house is never the same when one of the girls is missing, but this time was even different. While I was worried about Addie, Ivy was non-stop playing and wrestling with her baby brother – Bolo (formerly Oscar).

Ivy and Bolo were inseparable…

It was probably good timing that he came to visit, so Ivy wouldn’t feel alone while Addie was out of the house.

They literally could not stop playing…it was like they were testing each other to see who would fall asleep first.

You could see the look in their eyes that they were both exhausted, but didn’t want to be the first one to look weak.

The only rest they got, was when I separated them and put Bolo in his crate for a nap.

It was good to have him to occupy Ivy while Addie wasn’t around. Though I think she still noticed that someone was missing…

At first, I thought it was Bolo who was whining…but he kept quiet while he was in his crate (Addie makes the smartest puppies!).

I should’ve known it was Izzy…she would stick her nose under my door and continue to whine each morning Addie was gone until I woke up and attended to her. She knew someone was missing, and wasn’t used to sleeping alone.

She’s really something else…

Luckily, Miss Addie was only out of the house for a day…and came home to where her rest and relaxation would begin. She hasn’t showed any pain and you can tell she’s happy to be back home with her family (& this week’s visitor).

Her responsibilities of being a mom and taking care of little ones all the time has come to an end (minus Ivy of course).

It’s crazy to think that we’ve had Addie for so many different moments of her life.

We’ve seen the smiles on her face when she delivered two separate litters of puppies, to the look of serenity as her responsibilities of being a mom have now come to an end.

I’m looking forward to watching her enjoy the rest of her life…in peace and quiet…as just a dog.

Today’s Lesson: everyone you meet is for a reason. I didn’t know that only three short years ago, I could meet a dog that could change my life. Unfortunately, it’s the end of an era…but it’s amazing to think that Addie has changed the lives of so many people in the short amount of time she’s been with us. She’s created 22 beautiful, smart souls that would do anything for their families. She’s given people the chance at the unbreakable bond we all hope for. She’s definitely a dog I will never forget.
