As you all know by now, Addie had 11 puppies. But did you know to get those puppies you’d have to deal with her going through heat…several times?

We found some great washable diapers at Petco that we use during heat. They’re black and Velcro on the sides, and are pretty easy to put on and take off. For some of us…

During the day’s when I’m not home, I bring Addie to visit Auntie Stell down the street. She gets to play all day, swim in the water and nap with her best friend. She always loves visiting her human family members, and knows if she’s good they’ll give her special treats.

On this particular, beautiful, sunny day…Addie constantly wanted to go outside. She was in then out, in then out. It got to the point where we were sick of continually putting her diaper back on when she got inside, so we left it on when she went out. After all, she had been outside without it all day, she didn’t have to go to the bathroom right?

Wrong…oh so wrong.

Addie decided that this time, she had to go to the bathroom, and had to go really bad. It was unfortunately one of those times that we left the diaper on. She went out for a bit and waddled back into the house. Her diaper was several pounds heavier than when she went out.

Have you seen those pictures of the cute little babies, who poop and their diaper hangs? Well imagine this with the biggest dog poop you’ve ever seen.

It was awful, but we couldn’t help but laugh. She looked so upset that she had done something wrong, when really it was us who didn’t take the diaper off of her.

That’ll teach us…or so we thought.

Several months go by, and the puppies are here. She is wearing her diaper again to keep the house clean after the birth of her puppies. Being a new mom is tough. You don’t feel well and your body doesn’t act the same as it used to…so we figured we would keep the diaper on Addie, just in case.

It was that time and Addie wanted to go out again. But oops – we forgot to take the diaper off and this time – was payback from her.

I cannot begin to explain to you how awful this situation was…and we didn’t realize how awful it was until she came back into the house. The puppies were in the breezeway, where everyone frequented to spend time with them. To get here from where Addie was, she has to cross the living room and kitchen to head to the end of the breezeway where we were sitting.

She came to meet us where her puppies were, and come to find out, the poor thing had gone to the bathroom and this time it was really, really bad. It was like she just ate Mexican food and got food pinioning from it. The worst part, was she tracked it through the entire house, dripping it out of the sides of her diaper. We felt awful that she didn’t feel well, but couldn’t stop laughing at the situation in front of us. It looked like she just rolled around in a mud pile as you followed each pawprint of where she had been. However, we all knew the pawprints were not mud.

It will definitely be an unforgettable memory, for me especially who had to clean up each pawprint, and remove the stinky diaper from her. Luckily, we all know she will do anything for her ball…so her cleanup was easy. We threw the ball into the pond and away she went.

Ok, now we have definitely learned our lesson…I hope.

Today’s lesson: sh*t happens…sometimes you need to take the time to look ugly in the face and laugh it off. This was definitely a situation that was by no means fun, but it was funny to be in the moment and laugh at what an awful experience we were all having.
