You can tell in everything the girls do, Ivy completely idolizes her mom.

Anything Addie does, Ivy does too…and it’s the cutest thing.

I wasn’t sure what the dynamic would be like with two dogs, especially with a mother and daughter. Before Addie had babies, she was very…independent. She did what she wanted, when she wanted and didn’t care if there were repercussions to her actions. Since having puppies, Addie has gotten a little more anxious…she’s always on guard and ready to protect.

Whether it’s the wind howling or the mailman dropping off another Amazon package, Addie wants everyone to know she is here, and ready to protect her family with her life. Addie never used to bark before she had puppies, but now it’s her way of making her presence known.

Unfortunately, to Ivy, this means it’s her job to do the same…

If Addie barks, Ivy barks louder. It’s amazing, but you can tell Ivy is learning from her mother’s actions…you can see it in her face as she copies every move Addie makes. I tell Addie to stop, and Ivy looks puzzled that she isn’t doing her job right, because it’s what her mom was doing.

But, this isn’t the only thing Ivy copies…

When Addie goes swimming in the water, as soon as she gets out she shakes like most dogs would do. Ivy watches Addie, then shakes too…even when she doesn’t even get wet. She sees her mom do it, and thinks that it’s what she is supposed to do next. It really is “Monkey See – Monkey Do”.

It doesn’t stop here though…if Addie pees, Ivy pees…whether she has to or not. I’ve watched her squat to pee and nothing happens because she doesn’t even have to go. She looks at Addie and sees her squat and immediately squats too. She just wants to do everything her mom does.

She lays like her, walks like her, chases squirrels like her…it’s like I’m seeing double.

It’s really amazing thing to watch her body language try to mimic her mothers’. They’re becoming the same size and are almost the same color now…it’s getting hard for me to even tell them apart sometimes.

Addie is teaching Ivy personality traits and lessons of life that a human never could. Ivy continues to develop her little personality and her actions are definitely reflective of Addie.

You can tell everyday, that Ivy’s love for her mom grows stronger…and luckily Addie’s patience does as well.

I have never seen two animals be so in-sync and happy to be together. Ivy is a lot to deal with 98% of the time, and Addie is the best mom she could’ve had to show her the ropes.

As you can see, wherever they are and whatever they’re doing, they’re together.

Today’s Lesson: human nature and animal instincts is something we’ll never understand but is so powerful and meaningful. As William D. Tammeus would say “You don’t really understand human nature unless you know why a child on a merry-go-round will wave at his parents every time around and why his parents will always wave back.” Addie will continue to teach her baby, and Ivy will forever follow her every move.
