It’s officially been a full week that the puppies have been in their new homes…and what a quiet week it’s been.

Although I’ve been able to have a full cup of coffee (& hot too!), I do miss seeing 11 happy, stinky snouts every morning…jumping up to greet me.

It’s always an interesting transition sending them to their new homes.

You have to make sure you tell the new families everything they’ve been accustomed to for the entirety of their life (no big deal…).

What they eat, how much they eat…when they go to the bathroom, how often they go…the list keeps going.

It’s hard to keep track of who you told what already, and what you might’ve forgotten.

All of the puppies went home with some of the stuff they’re used to playing with and some food to get them started on the same diet. We wanted the transition to their new lives to be as seamless as possible.

We’ve heard from all of the families since they’ve left us, and they all look like they’re adjusting great.

It’s exciting to see how much love and joy they’ve brought their new owners in such a short amount of time.

But I always worry about Miss Addie when they start leaving us, and this time was a little different as we didn’t keep a puppy for her to play with.

Believe it or not, she does recognize that they’re gone, and it does make her sad.

A few days after they left, she walked into the puppy pen, smelt the toys and started whining. She walked around the room, sniffing and looking for them…but they weren’t there.

She even got sick…she was stressed and anxious that they were gone.

Since then, we’ve given her lots of toys and played ball with her…she’s had special treats and is finally adjusting to a life of less responsibility.

We’re back home and our adventures with Addie and Ivy will continue.

We’ll keep cuddling on the couch,, swimming in the pond and snoozing on the deck.

I know the next chapter in the puppies lives will be great. We gave them the best foundation we could, and taught them how to love people. It’s now up to them and their new families to create a future together.

Today’s Lesson: all good things come to an end. For us, this is the end of breeding Addie and watching her puppies grow up in our home. But for the families, this is just the beginning of a long, happy journey together.
