The weather has been so beautiful…

The leaves were falling, birds were chirping, and the smell of bonfires were in the air. It was so  peaceful and I was so happy to be enjoying the fall weather.

Ivy was being a little restless so decided to take her for a walk. I usually take her to the mailboxes at the end of our street, where we get the mail and bring it back to Miss Addie. Once I get back, I switch dogs and make our rounds again. But today was so nice out that I decided to take Ivy a little further.

She was walking so nicely…

Until we made it to the end of our road, where we saw an unfamiliar Scarecrow staring at us. That’s when Izzy joined us on the walk instead…

She went nuts – she barked and she jumped…like she wanted to let the Scarecrow know that she was the one that does the scaring on this street. Luckily no one was around…

Can you picture in your mind what it must look like to have a little 50 pound dog, barking and hurdling her body into the air at this inanimate object?

As she jumped and leaped at the stuffed shirt, she completely ripped my flip flop, making it impossible to wear. She stopped me dead in my tracks and I knew it was going to be a long walk home.

I guess today was not the best day to continue walking past the mailboxes…

It was a long walk back as I stepped, then dragged the other sandal on my foot. I live on an unpaved road, so walking barefoot is the last resort as it is the more painful option to take.  We decided to take it slow instead.

While walking, Izzy continued to chase every falling leaf and grab every stick she saw. She yanked me left, then she yanked me right…as if this was a new fun game we were playing.

I did a lot of thinking on that long walk home, and self reflected on my decision of dog #2. Just last week the house was too quiet without her, and today…well it’s back to being full of life again.

Today’s Lesson: you can’t rush something you want to last. I was the one who wanted to take that longer walk and enjoy the day, and Izzy was going to do everything she could to make that happen for me. Sometimes we rush through life and forget to appreciate the little things that we want to last. Ivy won’t be a puppy forever, and her silly moments of chasing leaves and eating sticks will fly by before my eyes. She did me a favor without even knowing it. She definitely keeps my feet [dragging] on the ground.

Lol, Izzy is a character! Izzy and Sybil, my library card, credit card eating puppy, are definitely from the same gene pool. This definitely confirms my decision not to put out my scarecrow and ghost this year! Love Izzy❤️

Keeping the scarecrow and ghost inside is probably best, unless you want to lose a shoe! They really are quirky!
