The mind of a dog is amazing. They say they don’t understand us and instead recognize patterns in our voice and our tones. But I find that hard to believe.
When I used to drive into the office everyday, I would bring Addie with me and drop her off to play with her Auntie Stella along the way. Over time, I think she’s learned that Stella’s house = fun day with friends and family.
As we drive down the road, she seems to have learned when we are getting close. I’m not sure if the smell in the air changes, or she recognizes her scenery…but as soon as we are about 2 driveways away, Addie knows.
I recognized her excitement as we got closer and would ask “are you ready to see Stella?”. She instantly perks up and waits in the back seat, ready to jump out and run into the house.
It’s gotten to the point where I can say it when I’m not even in the car, and Addie knows to run to the door and wait. She knows if she waits by the door we will soon go for a ride that will bring her to her best friend.
I’m not sure she really comprehends the words I’m saying or whether she hears “Stella” and remembers her routine. It’s amazing.
Addie would do anything for her friend Stella. She’s known her since her first day with our family and would do anything for her best friend.
Stella and Addie are very different but are the perfect pair together. They’re like Salt and Pepper.
Addie, as you know, can be crazy, energetic and spontaneous…and Stella is the complete opposite.
Stella is quiet, reserved, cuddly and laid back…but they make the best of friends. I think Addie get’s more excited hearing her and Stella are going to hangout than hearing her and Ivy are.
I feel confident that Addie would protect Stella as her own if she was put into a situation where she had to. Their bond is so strong and they’re inseparable. Hard to believe they didn’t know each other at one point.
Today’s Lesson: opposites attract. Great friendships can form with very different personalities. If you click, you just click.
