We decided to have a family reunion and invite all of Addie’s puppies to play before they get too big.

We wanted to have a cookout, where the puppies could run and swim and the adults could catch up and share their stories.

I was a little hesitant, as Addie has been a little nuts since this whole puppy thing. Her personality is still great, but sometimes she just snaps.  She recently had tried to go after a small Golden Retriever puppy and I wasn’t sure if she was defending her territory or was suddenly super protective of her baby. Her hormones must be going crazy, so I cant blame her.

We luckily had a great day. The weather was hot and almost all of the families were able to come. I wanted Addie to teach some of the puppies how to swim who weren’t so sure about it. After all, she can swim better than any human I know.

I kept her inside until all of the families arrived. The puppies seemed to remember each other and how much fun they used to have together. I wasn’t really sure how I was going to bring her outside – there as a lot going on with parents, kids and now lots of dogs.

Should I bring her out on a leash? Should I let her sit on the deck and smell things out to read her reaction?

We decided to just go for it, we let her out with her E-Collar on and kept an eye on her. To my surprise, she was completely unphased. It’s like she knew who they were and knew everyone was there to have fun and play together. No one was there to harm her family.

The day ended up being lots of fun – for the humans and dogs. Her puppies swam in the water…even the ones who were hesitant. They played fetch together and ran around for hours. Needless to say at the end of the day, they were all exhausted.

We’ve been fortunate, as I’ve mentioned before, that all of the families we’ve met are so great. I hope that in the future we can still get some of them together.

Today’s Lesson: you never forget the people you care about. Time can pass by and you may not see each other, but you can somehow pick right up where you left off.
